Power Playlists

So when I run I usually listen to music. Lately I’ve had some requests for some playlits. I don’t know why I got so many comments that I would love 80′s so much because I was born halfway through the 80s! I get crap at work when 80s music comes on that I wasn’t even alive yet to listen to certain songs. I do love the 80s though, but I am a gangster/r&bish lover as well. I don’t endorse anything Even when at the gym I usually am jamming away and have been caught mouthing the words to songs before. Awkward. Anyways, here’s a gathering of the songs that I listen to during workouts. I have divided them up into what I feel fit my workouts. There are ‘descriptions’ of the workouts next to the title of the ‘play list’. If there is any funny story related to the song as well I put it in () on the side. Enjoy!

*If you have limewire or itunes, search for Victoria Secret Fashion Show remix. They are the BEST upbeat songs. There is one by The Killers that I absolutely love. They have like 5-6 songs and they are really good remixes.

I realize, there is a lot of Britney on there! Weird. Anyways, I hope you all enjoy. With such a strong response about the gym people I’ve seen, I will be starting the Fitness Freak of the Week, hopefully next week. Last night I did another 200 sit ups and 20 push ups. The 200 are getting easier and easier I think maybe I’ll soon bump up the number slowly. Tomorrow I’m going to get in a nice little 5-6 miler before my race this weekend. This weekend I have the 25k (15 mile) trail run up in Malibu so look for a race report on Monday! I am excited for this race and all the people that will be there. Have a wonderful, running filled weekend!

Music to my ears
This morning I put in a pretty nice 6.5 miler and it felt really great. I totally forgot I’m running in a 5k next Sunday, so that’s pretty exciting and it’s a nice little course in the park by house. I’m hoping for sub 24. We’ll see. :)
Why does this stuff always happen to me? So along the boardwalk, there are houses that are directly on the beach. These houses have little fences to surround their yard and most of these fences have spikes on them because there are many rude beachgoers and late night partiers who would find these fences a wonderful place to sit on. I, as you all know, run incredibly close to walls, etc. and while I was running this morning I raised my arm to miss a spike and totally nailed it on the way up. After cursing, I just kept going and realized once I got back to my car that I had a HUGE bump and it was already turning blue and purple. Gosh, seriously. I also got scrapped by a rose bush. I guess I need to teach myself not to run directly next to anything. :)
So onto the Christmas Gift of the day. Everyone must have that one pump up song. The one that Rocky ran up and down the stairs too. The one that when you hear it, your head bobs and your blood pulses to the beat. So what is a runner without their music. It’s like a car without a street. The gift of music for Christmas is a great idea when thinking of what to get someone.

The second thing on the 26.2 Christmas List is the glorious gift of Apple. First off is itunes gift cards. Anyone can purchase these easy to find gift cards, and the recipient will be grateful that you filled your ears with some new tunes that keep them going out on the long run. Also these cards come in a variety of increments, so they can also be a great stocking stuffer! If your special person doesn’t already have an ipod to listen to while working out, this holiday season there are a lot of options to choose from, and ipods have gotten increasingly inexpensive.

In this picture there are four different kinds of ipods. Let’s go from the left to the right, starting with the ipod touch. The ipod touch is available for $229 for 8 GB, $299 for 16 GB and $399 for 32GB . With all aspects of the iphone in the touch, minus the phone service it’s a very multifunctional gift. You can play games, listen to music, watch movies, and this ipod actually can also use the Nike+ application that no other ipod can use since the touch comes with it and you just need to put the sensor in your shoe.

Next we have the ipod classic. Slim and sleek this one retails for $124 and comes in silver or black colors. This one has 120 GB and is showcased for it’s capacity. You can play a very limited number of games and store lots and lots of photos and music on this one. Another option for the Nike+ system as well.

The little green one shown next is the newly updated ipod nano. There’s nine bright and fun colors to choose from and this one goes for $149 for 8 GB and $199 for 16 GB. It has some features of the iphone like the sideways screen view, and also the “shake” ability and also can use the genius feature from itunes. You can also watch movies and play games on this little screen as well. This ipod is also an option for the Nike+ system.

The little blue ipod to the right of the green ipod is the shuffle. This little guy is great for the gym and comes in 5 colors and retails for $49 for 1 GB and $69 for 2 GB. To all you exercise fiends, an ipod without a display doesn’t create a problem during classes, workouts, or anything at all. It upgrades the old CD player because its flash memory it won’t skip when you’re bouncing around and its small, light, clip-on design makes it easy to strap to your workout togs. I have one of these ones and I do really enjoy it when I’m on the run.

Here is a listing of what all the different ipods can hold.

1GB iPod shuffle: 240 songs
2GB iPod shuffle: 500 songs
8GB iPod touch: 1,750 songs or 10 hours video
16GB iPod touch: 3,500 songs or 20 hours video
8GB iPod nano: 2,000 songs or 8 hours video
16GB iPod nano: 4,000 songs or 16 hours video
32GB iPod touch: 7,000 songs or 40 hours video
120GB iPod classic: 30,000 songs or 150 hours video

I personally love the nano. It’s a perfect size for working out and it’s easy to update and keep track of how many songs you have. So this holiday, give someone the gift of jamming on the road when they are out running, or on the dreadmill at the gym. Just try not to laugh when they sing to themselves. :)

All Things Apple…

Yesterday was a big day for the iPod community as Apple had it’s tech conference releasing information on many of it’s new products. Mostly, these conferences are super hush-hush, and this one was no different. Though I did follow the live blog of http://gizmodo.com/, which was very entertaining as well as informative, I’ve done some sleuthing on my own to find out what is key to the running community about these reinvented Apple Products and also included some pictures.

First off we have the new iPod nano, which now comes in nine amazing colors. Obviously I’m grabbing the pink one when the checkbook allows…

Talk about stopping traffic, these babies are as bright as they look and there are a couple new cool features, which includes a new curved all-aluminum body style and a glass screen. It includes the new Genius feature, which is comparable to a personal DJ by creating play lists and finding songs in your personal library that go together. (Running play list anyone?) Also it has the shake feature, which I have found to be fun on my iPhone, that shuffles your music for you. At initial thought, I think this feature would be great to shuffle, but then my mind thought about running, because of the shaking movement, does that mean your iPod will constantly be changing songs? Something to definitely look into, but I doubt Apple would make such a silly mistake as that. They look great though, and are compatible with my much loved Nike+ System as well. Starting at $149 for an 8GB isn’t too pricey, so that’s another plus.

Secondly, the released the new iPod Touch which is the one that looks like exactly like the iPhone, but isn’t a phone. Anyways, this one has a sleeker design, and also has (drum roll please) Nike+ BUILT IN! Amazing, if you ask me, but at a costly $229, that is a pretty expensive system for a ‘running iPod‘.

Unfortunately, the only iPod to have the Nike+ application built in is the newest iPod Touch, and there are no known applications for purchase or free for the old iPod Touch or iPhone, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the iPhone app sometime soon!

Both the new iTouch and iPod are also sleeker and slimmer and Steve Jobs called them the “Funniest iPods Ever.”

And about the iPhone, I love mine, it’s simply amazing and I recommend it to anyone. :)

Another thing that goes with iPods is obviously accessories! Accessories are what make anything happen, so Apple doesn’t fall short of amazing there as well. Apple was of course prepared and already has the new armbands available for the new iPods.

Looks just like the old one, but a must buy if your are going to the gym, seems to also be good to keep it from getting scratched as well. Funny though, Apple released all these new colors and the armbands are all white and cover up almost all the color. Those are $29

Also they released new earbuds and they are a steep $79. They have much improved sound and claim to also drastically reduce unwanted outside noises. Also these new earbuds has a stainless steel mesh cap to protect the special components from dust, debris, and lets be honest here, earwax.

There is also a remote located on the cord of the earbuds that adjusts volume, play/pause, and next/previous. Pretty cool, but still, $79? Whoa Apple.
Well that is my recap of all things that were noteworthy yesterday. All these products can be found at any Apple Store, http://www.apple.com/, or any electronics store.
