Staying healthy in the summer months!

Disclosure: This post was sponsored by Athleta through their partnership with POPSUGAR. While I was compensated by POPSUGAR to write a post about Athleta, all opinions are my own.

With summer weather quickly heating up, I have been doing a few more things outside to stay active during my pregnancy. I love the summer months and love being warmed by the sun. I have been walking a lot lately and I am enjoying exploring new local areas and little local parks, which has made it more fun to walk. It doesn’t give me the same rush as running but I still can get my heart rate up and feel healthy, I know it’s really good for the baby too. Athleta recently sent me a few pieces from their Summer collection and I wanted to share a few of my favorites!

The Athleta shorts I’m wearing are actually perfect for walking because they have pockets AND an elastic waist band in the back, so I know they will be with me until the end of my pregnancy. I love pockets on shorts because I can stash my phone or keys in them and feel safe having those things with me. It’s actually hard to find running shorts with pockets! These will probably be put into my normal rotation of normal clothes because they have such a cute pattern that they look like normal shorts!

Something new that I have added to my routine is doing light prenatal yoga to help with my back. I’ve always had back problems and asked my doctor about it and he told me this would possibly help me stretch out my lower back. I usually do this at home, in the backyard or living room with just my laptop because it makes me feel way more comfortable than going to a class and it lets me go at my own pace. If I go to take a class, I get super competitive and frustrated when I can’t keep up. I also have been doing a few arm workouts after yoga with light weights at home.

These striped capris have become a favorite as well! They are comfortable and really allow a lot of give, which is key when you’re growing weekly. The top is a great staple for summer as it’s really lightweight. I also love the bright color especially for walking at dusk.

Finishing off the perfect summer day? Dinner with B of course! We went out to a local BBQ and I took a risk and wore this light-colored dress, but luckily I didn’t spill anything on it, even with all the BBQ I had eaten! This dress was perfect for my currently changing body and it’s so comfortable. I have struggled a bit with dressing myself right now because I don’t have a big bump yet but I feel really boxy and thick. I don’t know if strangers would be able to tell if I was pregnant or just had a lot of pizza, so this dress is forgiving and helps with my confidence.

Maxis have been a great option and I know that maxis will be great, especially in the heat of the summer. This one was perfect with more than enough room to grow and it was really long, which is hard to find because I’m 5’7. Another thing that really made this dress stand out to me is the fact that it’s made of a blend of spandex, so it’s really comfortable and it also has a built in bra, making it easy to wear and not having to worry about bra straps hanging out.

No matter what I’m doing, especially as the weather gets warmer, I make sure I have a water bottle with me because I get thirsty so much faster now. I love the summer, and being active while pregnant has become easier with comfortable clothes and accepting the fact that I can enjoy doing new and different activities and will be able to run with a new running partner in the future! There are so many options to get outside and enjoy the weather, even if it’s just for a short period of time – like taking the bike around the block! As long as my doctor approves me to continue up with my activity, I will be biking, walking, running when I can, and yoga-ing my way into September!

You look adorable! I love that hoodie, and that dress looks great on you. How would you compare Athleta to Lululemon?
