So just in case you missed all the social media buzz about it or are living under a large rock, it is National Running Day! I run so therefore I’m celebrating! Here are a few ways to take part, give back and plain old just have fun on the run.
Women’s running is having a special deal - A yearly subscription (10 issues) for only a $1 an issue!
Saucony has partnered up with Runner’s World for an inspiring Film Premier at 4 pm! I hope practice gets done a little early so I’ll be home to watch. They embarked on a journey to capture the transformative power that running has on individuals and communities and are excited to share a 20 min documentary film about the amazing stories uncovered. Catch all the action here.
Timex is celebrating National Running Day by asking runners across the country to use hashtag #IMARUNNER on Twitter and Instagram to celebrate the motivation of runners. Timex partnered with NFL Pro Bowl Quarterback Boomer Esiason, whose foundation encourages people with cystic fibrosis to incorporate running into their daily lives. Boomer has established Team Boomer, which unites runners who are committed to raising funds for cystic fibrosis research and promotes the use of running as an effective tool to clear the lungs of those suffering from the disease.
For every use of #IMARUNNER on National Running Day, Timex will donate $5, up to $20,000, towards the Boomer Esiason Foundation’s Team Boomer program. Individuals who contribute content via the hashtag #IMARUNNER will also be qualified to win Timex® IRONMAN® watches. See some of the photos tagged here.
Another company giving back is Mizuno! They are converting “miles into money” by donating $1 to Back on My Feet for every mile run up to 100,000 miles by runners who download and run with Mizuno’s mobile “baton” app. Back on My Feet is a national for-purpose organization that uses running to help those experiencing homelessness get back on their feet personally and financially through job placement and other resources. My friend Mary Kate just ran the LA Marathon with them! To participate, visit www.ifeverybodyran.com and download the Mizuno “baton” app. The relay is live from May 19th and will run through August 19th.
Here are a few more ways to donate your miles to a charitable cause as well or meet up with a group that is going to be running locally. Mary Kate and are running in the morning together! Enjoy National Running Day, because tomorrow when you run it will just be another normal day of running.
