I’m SO excited to report that last week I ran 50 miles in a single week! This is pretty rare for me, so I was really excited to see the miles tick away and that I accomplished this.
Last Sunday we went for an awesome 15 miler. It went by so fast, we did a lot of hills along the course and it was one of those runs that really gives you confidence. After the run we stopped and got a special treat, a Sidecar Doughnut! Oh my word, Maple Bacon Goodness…
Then Monday was a much needed rest day, Tuesday was a 6 miler and Wednesday I drug myself to the gym to work out my arms. I haven’t really been going to the gym lately because I haven’t had the time but I know that I need to continue to strengthen my back for support as the long runs keep getting longer because I have some lower back and neck issues that I’ve had my entire life.
Thursday we did another long run of 8 miles and then Friday we kept it short since we had a long run on Saturday again! This past Saturday was one of the hardest training runs I’ve EVER done. 16 miles with lots of hills and climbing and we pushed the pace to keep it going the entire time!
Normally we run on such flat paths that this climbing was a challenge but in a good way. I was also really glad with how hard we pushed ourselves and how consistent we were too. It’s so important when you’re training to try to keep a consistent pace to prepare yourself for race day. The last miles were also the fastest miles we ran as well, which was really encouraging. We also ran through where I went to college, and got some great views!
So this week, with all the running we did, I ended up with 50.6 miles! I couldn’t be more happy with how I am feeling and that I ran that far without having injuries. My legs are pretty sore this week after such a big week, but I am so thankful that they are cooperating and my knee isn’t having issues as well! More icing and foam rolling for me.
