Recap of the latest Long Run: 8 miles

So this Saturday I knew that I had to get my long run done. I had 8 miles on the old platter and to say I was nervous would be an understatement. B had to work so he left at 5 am, and I fell back asleep, knowing that soon my alarm would go off and I would be off and running. I woke up feeling a bit sluggish and dreading my 8 miler. I rolled around in bed, contemplating putting it off until the next day, but I knew I had to get it done. I know, so much thought going into this measly 8 miler.

Then, I had a brilliant idea. I would run to the gym, run on the treadmill, workout AND run home, to get my miles done. I ran to the gym, worked out for about 30 minutes and finally got on the treadmill. I knew once I got about 2 miles done, I wouldn’t stop because I’d be on a roll, even though I loathe running on the treadmill. True as I thought, once I got a mile and a half in, I thought to myself, well I can’t stop now or I will never get this run done. Running, I tell ya, is all mental.

Finally 5.5 done on the old mill and then I took off to make it home. It’s been a LONG time since I’ve ran that far and my body was not happy with me. I could feel my legs being very heavy and my back was hurting. I forgot how much your back hurts when you start getting into longer miles. Alas, made it home, grabbed some water and played with George and kept it really low key for the rest of the day.

I am in the stages where I am starting to think again, “Wow! I ran this far today!” No matter what my mileage is. I love that feeling, it’s so exciting to watch your mileage go up when you start basically at nothing.

Other than that it was a fairly productive weekend, had an AMAZING dinner at the Tripel, got a few small Christmas decorations, Baked a ton, and celebrated B’s birthday with my side of the family. His actual Birthday is on Wednesday and I won’t be home because I’ll be on site at work :( He decided that since I’ll be gone as well, he will just work on Wednesday and Thursday.

We did have a great time at Sushi on Friday night.. and I tried to make whoopie pies and they came out a little weird. I need to work on making them a better shape and more consistent.

And here’s a picture of the almost Birthday Boy!

Yes, the mustache has GOTTA go… hopefully at the end of the month. Work this week is going to be crazy since we have an event on Thursday, but the long weekend coming up will hopefully lend itself to some Christmas shopping, crafting and baking! Tis almost the season.

I woke up early today to run but had pretty weird back pain and am going to hopefully do some stretches today and either hit up the gym tonight for a little cross training or go for a 4 miler after work with little G. We’ll see how I feel at the end of the day.

Tomorrow I’ll share my updated training plan, since I seemed to be a little overcommitted when I first made it. :)

xoxo

Nicely done on your run! I have considered running to my gym and working out and running home, just haven’t done it yet. Need to map it out. But it’s nice to see what someone has done it. Thanks for the inspiration!

  3. Haha happy birthday B! My birthday photos look like yours, plaids all around! Good job on the run. Today was my comeback from NYC, and 3.6 miles was easy on the lungs but tough on the ‘ol knees! Keep it up you’re doing GREAT!

  4. It’s so hard to get back into things, but you’re right, it feels great. Thanks for the inspiration. I’m hoping to do the same in the next few weeks.

I know what you mean about dreading a run and trying to postpone it….I had to get 8 miles in on Sat too and convinced my BF to run with me….which basically consisted of the 2 of us putting it off and talking about it ALL DAY, pace, route etc. haha! Finally at 6pm I was like what are we doing?! – So we knocked out 8 mi and it felt great! Las Vegas Halfie in 2 weeks :)
