After I left work yesterday I was pretty nervous about getting in a run in the dark. I don’t know why, but running in the dark freaks me out for many reasons. People don’t pay attention when driving, it’s dark and spooky and you never know what could be lurking. Alas, I have a ferocious new little friend who just LOVES to run. I got home, donned the long sleeve and capris and laced up my shoes. I just reminded myself that after the run I would feel much better. There is nothing like that feeling of being accomplished and getting a run in, especially when you know you’ll feel great at the end.
We were all set to go. The first 5 minutes is always a little tough with George because he is so excited to smell everything and be outside but after that he gets into the rhythm and runs well for the most part. I always make sure that he wants to keep running when we are out and I’m more than happy to walk with him, but most of the time he enjoys running. I swear when we run when he opens his mouth to pant he is smiling. We ran and ran and ran. Before I knew it, it was time to travel back home and we made the turn onto the home stretch and off we went. I love running down the street the very last part of the run. Of course, I’m aware of any cars if they turn especially in the dark since I can see their lights, but it’s almost a weird exhilaration to run in a place where only cars are allowed. We got back home, and George was happy as can be and so was I. Sometimes the hardest thing is getting out the door, but when you come back and walk through that same door that was so hard to get out of, you feel 100% better.
So with that great run in the books, tomorrow is a long run and I’m looking forward to getting it out of the way, listening to jams and picking up George for the last few miles of it, and then enjoying the weekend!
Also, I am going to tweak my training plan just a bit. I know I was committing a bit to much with the weekly run mileage, and I know my schedule and how I work well so I will adjust and update it next week.
