HIC Review. Wait What?!

So I recently was contacted by the company who makes Hawaiian Island Creation sun care line and I am not going to lie when I first heard from them I was very skeptical of their products. Seems funny that all my product reviews start like that. Anyways, I know about Hawaiian Island Creations because my brother surfs a ton and I know about their clothes and how big they are in the surfing community. Also, I used to travel to Hawaii a lot during the summer growing up for vacations so I was aware of it from there as well. When they approached me about suncreen I was little turned off.

Though I KNOW I should wear sunscreen when I go out and run, I hate doing it. I hate the feeling it leaves on my face, I hate how it smells and drips and gets gross when I sweat. I basically can come up with 100 excuses why not to do it. Deep down though I know I should. They sent me a spf 50 to try and a spf 30 to try. The 50 has yet to be tried since it hasn’t been that sunny and I’m not doing any long runs right now but I’m sure once summer comes and I’m back into training I’ll be busting that one out, but I was shocked how much I liked the spf 30!

The sunscreen goes on nicely, isn’t too thick and doesn’t get in my eyes when it goes get a little warmer and I start to, God forbid, sweat. That is the most annoying thing about having to put on sunscreen since it always runs and gets goopy and gross. This one never did and I had to wash my face to get it off which was great, since after a long run I’m taking a shower anyways. I really didn’t mind the scent and it seemed to be not overwhelming like some sunscreens can be. It didn’t feel heavy, which is another problem I have with a lot of sunscreens. Protecting yourself against the sun’s rays is so important and I’m glad I now know about this product for my running arsenal!

Then I have been in LOVE with the chapstick they sent me since I got it. I used to SWEAR by Burt’s Bees. Nothing compared and I really liked everything about it. I would have like 5 tubes of them at a time throughout my house. I got their chapstick and I was like meh, it’s chapstick, but I actually am a convert to this new kind! It’s amazing. It is the perfect amount of glossiness and I absolutely love the fact that it’s spf 30 rather than nothing in Burt’s regular chapstick and only spf in their sun protecting option. I love wearing it everywhere and it’s my go-to for under every lipcolor I wear as well. It’s the most amazing chapstick ever and I totally recommend that you check it out! Before every long run I throw some on as well just to make sure that my lips are protected, and yes, now I have about 10 tubes littered around my house. If you want to check out either product, find out more here!

I wear moisturizer on my face that has SPF in it but I dont specifically put any on when I run, I know I should. I am picky about sunscreen smells. HAwaiian tropic is the best. Does this one have a good smell?

Hmm, I will have to check it out! I am definitely the girl who has about 5 tubes of Burt’s Bees all over my house, in my purse, in my car…

Will have to check out the chapstick; I’m a fanatic about applying it before a run, and so to have an SPF in it would be really great.

I LOVE Hawaiian Island products! I also hate putting sunscreen on. I know lots of people out there are probably mortified that I just said that. I try my best but I really hate that stuff on my skin. I think what I love most about this stuff is that it does not run in your eyes when you are sweating like a beast and for some reason I sweat alot on my head. This product has never failed me. I also love the chapstick.

I found out about Hawaiian Island at an LA Marathon expo many years ago and due to my head sweating problem…hahaha, I was curious to try their line because it prevented sunscreen going into the eyes. I’m glad I tried their products because I love it.

Great review, chica, I’ll look into their products. I’m wary about some lines that promise not to run into my eyes when I sweat and turn me into an albino because of how sticky the cream is. I HATE that!
