Searching for a new home

DJ and I love where we live, don’t get me wrong, but we have began to start thinking about the possibility of moving. Where we live is really great, but we have started to think about moving into a small home together. Things are getting pretty serious between us. I kid, I kid. :) Since rent prices out here are pretty ridiculous, the search continued into this weekend. We really like the small craftsman type homes that are around our area, but the prices range from 1,400 to 2,000 a month. This is roughly what we are paying now for our apartment so we realized we could pay the same for a house. Bingo.

We have also discussed things that we REALLY want to have, that we are not willing to settle on at our new place. Things like… a garbage disposal, a bigger kitchen with more counter space and laundry inside. Also, with a home, we would have parking and a yard, which would be perfect for her two dachshunds to come live with us. A second bathroom would be another big plus, but we are still willing to share on that, we’d like a little more square footage and a better layout, a dishwasher, but these things are all just adding into what we are looking for. Since our place was built in the 1920′s, there are just a few things that we would like to upgrade in our new place.

This weekend we drove around looking for places. In the neighborhood we live in there are tons of places for rent so I know it will take just a little bit of time before we find the right place. I went and looked at two different places yesterday and one was adorable and had a HUGE kitchen and mostly everything was new.

Well I was in love with the kitchen. It was amazing and there was so much storage space! Right now we have one skinny pantry for food storage, so this kitchen was to die for. Except the closet space was, um, minimal as in barely there. DJ and I right now both have two closets so that was sadly a deal breaker.

Then I went to look at another place. It was a little oddly shaped, like one of the rooms was 13 x 8 and the bathroom looked like flipper threw up all over it. I like the color teal but it was a little much. The best part was the person who was showing it to us though. She was older and had to kick the front door open to let us in. When we asked questions about if the lights worked, she told us to try them, she didn’t know, and when asked about the size of the rooms she said, “I don’t know, do you know how to measure them with your feet?” It was pretty funny. We looked around and the carpet was not up to par, but the kitchen again, was mostly new and very nice.

Then things got interesting when we walked out to the ‘laundry room’ where the laundry hook ups were. This was pretty much almost like an underground shed thing. We opened it up and she was talking about the neighbors when all of a sudden I heard a loud, dirty, wet FART come from her vicinity. I looked around and had to stifle my laughter. I couldn’t get out of that laundry room and that house fast enough! The best part is that I don’t even think she realized what was going on or that she had done that. It was one of those ones where I though to myself, holy cow, do you need to use the restroom? It was so bad, but so funny. I was laughing hysterically by the time we left.

The search continues and I have a good feeling about it.  We have no deadline to move and will move once we find the house perfect for us. Then I will become an aunt to the puppies too! :)

So my weekend was pretty low-key and included a 10 miler that was neither great nor horrible but it did give me a reason to eat Sharkies and lately I’ll do anything for those things, and some house-hunting where we found the bathroom flipper lives in, the smallest closets around and farts.

xoxo

House hunting is not fun.

The Mr. used to live in 1920 house off of Covina and The Toledo. It was really nice but did not have a dishwasher and had odd shaped small closets.

The plus side was hardwood floors and washer/dryer!

Good Luck! We’ve been looking around at houses too, so many ideas, some with things we LOVE and things we don’t. Just wish we could take all of them and create our own perfect one :)

Uhg, I hate moving. Bouncing around between rentals was not fun. But, it can be fun to get to live in different parts of the city. Good luck on your search!

Oh wow, what an, um, interesting experience!

Good luck with the ongoing house hunt!

Ah I’m house hunting, also. It’s fun but finding the “dream” place us tough!
I’m mostly moving so my doggie can have a backyard finally. :)

Dude, that is just too funny! My side hurts from laughing so hard…and i’m at work!

Good luck on the house hunt!

Oh man…house hunting is so tough! Good luck. Stay away from teal and pink bathrooms! :)

Great story. I wouldn’t have been able to contain my laughter!!

Hilarious!! Your house hunting needs sound about identical to ours! We’re moving to California in May and will be checking out places at the end of May. Keep us posted on what you find!

I am in a similar situation with my wife. Right now we are dumping money into an apartment without any return so we are looking for a house or townhouse.

WOW on the gas laundry hook-ups. That’s amazing.

Good luck with your hunt. Finding the perfect place is the best feeling.

Good luck!
My son is a sharkies addict :-)

House hunting sucks…so enjoy the fartier moments!

Too funny!

Why is farting so freaking funny? Why do I have the humor of a 12 year old boy?

Good luck in your search!

Good luck!

The place below us is available. No yard.

This post about the dirty, wet fart made me laugh hysterically!

You are a brave soul – I hate looking for houses! So frustrating! Good luck girly!
You crack me up though, you ditched a cute house because the closets were too small – you’re killing me! :)

post pix of the fart!

Great story. I remember when I was condo hunting with my parents. I got in the backseat of the realtor’s car with my mother and had a fit. There were fried chicken bones in the backseat! EWWWWW!! It was like she had thrown them back there after eating and they got jammed into the creases of the seat.

classy.

i probably would not have been able to contain my laughter.

<3 YAY for looking for a new place to live!!

I would have started to laugh!
I have done a lot of house hunting in my day, and that has never happened to me, too funny!
I hope you find something in time for summer bbq’s … which for LA would be now?!;)

Best of luck with the house hunting! I am sure you guys will find something perfect.

That is hilarious. Thanks for sharing your house hunt! It is interesting to see how the housing market works outside of NYC, where rents are ridiculous. We pay well over the higher end of the range you are looking at for a 700 square foot apartment with old appliances. Oh well, at least I love the neighborhood, right? :)

I wouldn’t have been able to keep from laughing in front of her, so you are a model of good deportment for that one! Good luck on the house search… The perfect house is out there, it may just take some (fun) looking.

Have you searched some on Craigslist. I found a great place when I moved to Tampa, FL in January on Craigslist!! :) GOod luck.

Gah, I hate moving but sometimes it’s necessary =).

Hope you find exactly what you’re looking for.
