Green-layer Review

I was sent some cool articles of clothes from the cool folks at Green Layer the other day and I really love their stuff they sent me. I originally found out about Green Layer through the San Fransisco Marathon when I received my 1/2 marathon shirt from them. I’ve gotten many race shirts including the standard cotton shirt, which is eh, because you can wear it but I get nervous about running in it since I’ve become a moisture wicking snob and then you have the unisex race shirts which are cool if you are built like a box. That’s one disappointing thing about Long Beach. The race that I truly love and will always hold a special place in my heart gave me the WORST race shirt I own. It’s HORRIBLE fitting and I’ve yet to ever wear it, perhaps I shall frame it or something one day. Perhaps I will give them a hand this year in making sure the shirts are quality. ;) Then I got the Green Layer shirt last summer at the San Fran Marathon where I did the first half of the marathon. I got the shirt and albeit running a tad small it looks like the woman’s shirt was built for, GASP! A woman! Shocking, I know. So I researched Green Layer a little bit more and they were kind enough to send me out some shirts to sample. I REALLY liked the stuff they sent me a lot too. They sent me a great pull-over which I wore at the 13.1 Marathon in Santa Monica and a normal moisture wicking shirt.

I really, really love the pull-over. It’s light weight enough to keep you the right temperature and also keeps you dry. Another great perk is the fact that they have little thumb holes. I really like jackets that have that functionality. Also, one of the best aspects of the jacket is all the cool pockets they implemented and the overall fit. I felt the jacket fit a woman’s body really well. That is the weirdest thing I’ve ever said. The sleeves fit my arms well, weren’t too tight, or too long. The fabric on the seams were almost like a french terry, which is really nice as well. I also liked the cut of the jacket. I like how it’s a little bit longer in the back.

Then we have the shirt. I really liked the fit of the shirt too. Maybe I’m just used to too many weirdly cut running clothes that these were a dream for me! The shirt isn’t too short, which I’m always paranoid about. The best part? Doesn’t look like it was made to fit a box! Perfect! It also is made of a nice material and really keeps you dry while running. I really liked how tight but not TIGHT the shirt was. I really look for shirts that aren’t spandex, because I mostly keep that on my booty, but I don’t need spandex all up on my stomach, so a “looser” (relatively speaking) shirt on top really works for me.

I really liked both of these products though and I really appreciate that the San Fran Marathon picked out shirts that actually FIT PEOPLE! That is one of the most annoying things about running races where the shirt is unisex or just a cotton tee. So thanks guys! Also, thank you to Green Layer who sent me their products, even though they never responded to my email after sending the products. MEH! Check them out here! Beg for them to have Green Layer at your next race :)

Last night I worked out super hard at the gym and it felt really good. I laid off the legs to give them another recovery day and worked my abs and arms a ton. Tonight after work I’m planning a three miler to get my legs loosened up for the Great Race Half this weekend. This week is flying by! I’m excited to run the half now though, I know I’ll have fun with it and 13.1 miles sounds a lot more appealing than 26.2 right now.

xoxo

Surf City went with Green Layer this year and I like them. Good luck to you at Agoura! Have a breakfast burrito after the race for me!

Sounds like a great company with some good products. I definitely like a shirt that FITS> Boxy unisex race tees are not cool.

I too am a moisture wicking snob, but I will have to check these tops out.

Also, I every pullover and jacket I own for running has thumb holes, which means, that when I’m wearing work wear like sweaters, cardigans and long sleeved tops, I’m forever pulling the sleeves down and trying to loop my thumb through a non-existant thumb hole.

This is just one more way that running has over taken my life ;)

I LOVE my green layer shirts!!! SFM and Surf City both had them and they are my favvvvs – get on the ball long beach ;)

Great review thanks! I checked out their website, looks like they have some great products.

those shirts sound really comfy! I too hate the unisex race shirt!

So funny! SF was one of my FAV shirts, too!
Usually though, I am a sports bra girl – can’t stand to run/race with a shirt on :P

I just wrote my review of the VA Beach Shamrock Half and the shirts were also my one complaint!

It was a Brooks tech t-shirt, which sounds great, but they only had unisex sizes! The one that fit me best was the extra small, but that meant it was a tad shorter than I’d prefer, and it was still loose on the waist. I’m far from being an extra small, so I can’t even imagine how other girls smaller than me felt like!

Runners usually have a slim body, why do they do that?

I LOVE my SF shirt, too!

I HATE races that give out stupid unisex shirts to everyone. I wish they would wake up and order something you can actually wear. I’ve got a huge pile of race shirts I can never wear :( So sad. My big race pet peeve.

Love the shirt!! Definitely will check them out!

You know everyone is just checking out your boobs in that shirt, dontcha?

Sister!!! I just read your marathon experience and felt like crying! That’s so awesome. I’m training for the Portland Marathon for the second year in a row. Running has made me crazy. I love it – even though nobody is chasing me.

I just checked out their site cause the stuff looks great and the best thing about them is that they are affordable! HA. Love it. Thanks for reviewing these. I hadn’t heard about the company until now.

I love that pull-over. I shall check them out.

AHH!! I checked out their site just to see what they all had and saw that they are doing the shirts for the Madison Marathon! So excited to get one of their shirts now.

I am so disappointed when I hate the race shirt for a race. I did a half in Fredericksburg, VA in December and only payed the extra $5 for a shirt because it said it was a l-sleeve tech. Not happy when I turn up on race day to find short sleeves. It has become a good lounging shirt, very soft, but no good for running.

I also hate that a medium can’t just be a medium. Sometimes they are too tight, sometimes too short.

Given your love for shopping it might be time to buy a camera, those photos truly suck…I know I can say that without you taking offense…right!

They gave out green-layer shirts at the Inaugural Oakland Marathon. The expo was pretty small, but the shirt rocked! Ever since I read this blog I notice the shirts–I didn’t even know Surf City’s shirt was so nice. I left it in the bag and didn’t bother looking at it till after I was done reading that entry. hehehe

those shirts are nice! mama like!!! :) tell ur LB peeps to hook a girl up <3

I am very surprice to find this web, it’s let me know very happy, because we are the SUPPLIER of these shirts. I am Tina from China. The Marathon is supplied by Green Layer, right? And we are the factory in China. My email [email protected], WELCOME
