So as many of you know, I have gotten the new iPhone 3GS. I was previously having some issues with my 1st generation iPhone, which I lovingly refer to as dynoiPhone, I thought it was on it’s way out. I was having major battery issues and wasn’t getting calls or texts at all. When I found out they were going to be announcing a new iPhone in two weeks after my 1st generation got sick I knew it would be dumb to just pay $100 for a new battery instead of just upgrading. So this is how the 3GSexy came about.
So first off the new iPhone looks and feels exactly like the 2nd generation iPhone. I got the one with the black back. Though I do miss the brushed metal that was on the first generation, but the screen is much clearer and cleaner looking than the 1st and 2nd generation iPhones.
Though many of the features on the new iPhone most of them came in the OS (operating system) upgrade and not really in the new phone. The new highlights in the phone that I have found myself using the most is the video feature and the compass. I honestly haven’t even set up the voice dialing feature yet.
When people say that the iPhone will change your life though, they aren’t lying. Even with the dynoiPhone, I still couldn’t bear to part with it, even when it was sick and acting up. I knew I couldn’t go to any other phone either. I am so reliant on the map feature, and the Internet on that phone, and it’s so nice to be able to just browse easily and have the ability to go to any website. For me, it’s like having a baby computer with you at all times. The biggest complaint I hear about people not wanting the iphone is not having the keyboard. Well people, just like everything else, you get used to not having a keyboard. Seriously, once you get one, you will not regret it.
As for the new camera feature on the iPhone 3GS, I’m not overly impressed. It seems to me that it takes the same quality pictures, the face finder is cool, but is it really necessary? Not really, I’m pretty sure if I’m taking a picture of a person, I can find their face. The video feature though is SICK. I love taking videos. This annoys Mr. R to an extreme, but I love having the ability to just take video where ever I go of whatever I want. Though I haven’t taken any really great videos lately since I’ve just been testing it out, I know it will come in handy soon and I will capture something amazing.
Now onto another sick feature, which I think is geared towards people like myself. Now, honest confession, I’m HORRIBLE with north, east, south and west directions. I never even understand those at all. I know what a compass looks like, but standing in the middle of a road I cannot tell you what way is what direction. Now, with the handy dandy compass, I can just turn that bad boy on and magically I am a navigation genius! Super helpful in my world.
Now onto the 3GSexiness of the phone. Well Apple says that the “S” after 3G stands for speed, but I like to think of it as sexy. Now, compared to the dynoiPhone, of course it’s much faster. It charges WAY faster, get Internet and email much faster and the browsing is at a warp speed compared to dyno. It downloads everything SO much faster as well, including updates and new apps and app updates, which is a great features as well.
The phones are not THAT much different, besides speed though, and I do miss dyno, but I do love the new 3gSexy and am glad I got it. It took a little longer to activate than some (52 hours) but other than that I have had no issues with freezing, blowing up, or anything like that (knock on wood). I do wish that the brushed metal was still an option because I definitely liked that look the best and felt like it was the safest.
As for the OS update, that REALLY is amazing, and I can’t wait for them to do the tail end of the update which hopefully will include Multi-Media Messaging Services (picture texting) capabilities. The sideways keyboard is REALLY sweet and I love that feature. Sometimes when I text I still want to write SIDEWAYS TEXT ha ha. Also the voice memo feature is pretty cool as well.
If you are on the brink about the iPhone, I say just do it. Deep down inside, you know you want too. I have had my iPhone for over a year and a half now and I can’t even imagine going back to my blackberry or LAMEberry as I call it. You will and CAN get used to no keyboard and it has all the features all normal phones have and SO much more that it will blow your mind.
Here are some of the apps that I love for the iPhone as well.
- Hold’em – Texas hold ‘em that my brother and Mr. R got me way addicted too. My addiction has weaned so I’m not playing as much as I used too but it’s still a good way to pass the time.
- Quad Camera – This is the COOLEST app ever for taking pictures, it takes pictures like a photobooth and you can do tons of cool stuff with it.
-Facebook – Just like the webpage online and I’m a lurker, need I say more?
-Shazam – This is the coolest app for music. You hold the iPhone up to a speaker and it will listen to the music and tell you what album it’s from, the name, and the artist, which is great for when I hear a new great running song.
- Paper Toss – My brother is a lifeguard and found this game one day while he was lifeguarding. Safe, I know, but the game is SO fun.
-Twitteriffic – Personally, this is my favorite Twitter app. I really like how everything is organized.

Now, back to the running jibber jabber :) Yesterday I went to the park after work and ran hills. It looks smaller than if you are running up it. I think the hardest part of the hill is that you make it up one and there is a small section when it’s sort of flat and then it goes up again. It’s like a bunny slope but it’s pretty steep when you are running up it. I ran for about 40 minutes, and did 3 sets of 5 with a 3 minute stretching and water break in between each 5. I would run up the hill and then go down the backside which is a very long gradual hill and then I would loop around and run up the hill again. It really got my heart pumping and it was HOT out. :) I really enjoyed running them and know I will be doing them next week again as well. I know they are going to be super helpful when I run the San Fran 1/2, since that course will be very hilly. My knee was a little tender towards the end, and my butt is sore this morning! Hills are such a good quad workout, and though they are tough they really help you in powering up hills during a race.
This morning I ran 4 recovery miles and did my sit ups and push ups. It’s hard for me to get up in the mornings, but I know it will pay off in the long term. I can’t believe that San Fran is less than 26 days away now! I can’t wait to go up there and hang out with all the running girls up there and race again! I’m starting to get excited. I’m also excited because I’m pretty sure that for 13.1 miles I won’t need to make 100 trips to the bathroom!
Also, remember to check out the sweet deals section today! I updated it this morning! Hooray for Friday and fotos tomorrow! Perhaps a tribute to Baby Koo as he turns 21 this weekend!!
xoxo

My husband LOVES Shazam. We were in Express- well, I was- he was waiting for me- and he kept hearing songs he liked so he used Shazam and figured them out. Great app!
Good work on the hills!

Never heard of Shazam. I’m gonna check it out. I love Twitteriffic, I think it’s the best twitter app by far. Oh I’ve gotta have my FB… no doubt.
I still want the new iPhone, but First Gen. tried to die on me last Friday, it was a rush to the Apple Doctors to revive it, thankfully they did. Phew!

Thanks for the review! I have definitely been going between the Iphone and Blackberry as to which one to get and your review was so helpful! Great job on the hills, I may be weird but I love running hills! Ha!

I wanted to stick with Verizon service so I got the LG Dare…I agree it’s like having a little computer with you at all times. Although the Dare doesn’t have all the facny apps like the iPhone, but enough for me to play with.

I love the iPhone too – like you said, I can’t imagine ever going back to Blackberry after having one of these!
Great job on your training. Looking forward to your race report for San Fran :)

Ok so my google reader says it cannot find this feed, I guess I’m just going to have to manually go to the site. Do you know if anyone else is having problems?

Whoa, that is way too much technology for me. I don’t even have text messaging on my phone. Can you believe it? I think I’m the only one and it drives my friends crazy. Mabye some day.
Great job on the hill workout. Pictures never capture how steep a climb is. Sounds tough. I know exactly the type of hill you are speaking of. The bunny slope.

My husband bought us Blackberries and i love it. I always thought, why would someone want to text? Now I do it all the time!

I am loving the new phone! All you Blackberry users out there – I was a four year Blackberry user. I’m now a convert!
The last piece was GPS. I was using my Blackberry for Telenav. Now AT&T Navigator runs on the 3G. Outstanding GPS/navigation app! Better that my wife’s Mercedes Nav System!

I’m sOoOo out of the loop with technology, but sounds like you’re enjoying your new toy!
You’ll be in great shape for San Fran. Just think of how easy 13.1 miles is going to feel after the marathon!

I realized the other day that the new iPhone 3GS is compatible with the Nike+ program. We are waiting anther year to purchase since it will cost us $500 per phone. (I can’t get one without my husband also getting one.)
I know that you already love to run with Nikes so I wondered if you have already checked this out? Also do you use any sort of high tec stuff when you run such as a heart rate monitor?

Ok, so I intentionally waited to comment on this post because I knew I had an iPhone 3GSavory coming courtesy of my work. After about a week of testing it out, the thing I like the most–it actually is FASTER!! I’ll truly miss me hardcore alum back predecessor, but I’ll get over it pretty quickly. Great review!
